POSITIONS: ACCOUNTANT AND SOCIAL WORKER

1. ACCOUNTANT

REPORTS TOFinance Manager

LOCATION: Kigali, Rwanda

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The accountant will work under the supervision of the Finance Manager. She/he will give support to the Finance Manager in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance / Accounting Department.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Ensuring the procedures set for counting teams are adhered to by providing templates for recording all collections and guideline given to supervisors on counting.

 Verification of all recorded collections in the counting slips with other admin team to ensure they are tallying up.

 Liaise with bank on deposit all collection and ensuring all bank slips is verified by Finance Manager.

 Enter to General Ledger every week/day collections to respective funds-general fund, mercy ministry fund, project funds and other designated funds.

 Keep all confidential information relating to giving reports of church members.

 Liaise with church plant teams in ensuring proper financial records are kept and procedures properly adhered to.

 Liaise with project teams and give guidelines on financial records that should be maintained and ensuring financial procedures are adhered to.

 Prepare giving reports to individual members upon requests.

Conduct Monthly Bank reconciliation of all held church and project bank accounts and ensuring all items are followed up on uncleared transactions.

 Enter all supplier invoices and schedule payments in liaison with finance manager.

 Prepare payroll in liaison with the Finance Manager and the Executive pastor.

 Maintain all control accounts- payroll liabilities, tax liabilities, accounts receivables, accounts payables and ensuring reconciliations are conducted therein.

 

 Manage petty cash and tallying of all float settlements funds in liaison with finance manager to ensure funds were used for designated purposes.

 Prepare all payment vouchers for all approved requisition and subsequently cheques for signatures.

 Back up all financial data in external hard disks.

 Liaise with all external stakeholders- banks, tax authorities, other statutory bodies in matters relating to finance- prepare returns on time and schedule payments with spelt out timelines. This includes keeping in tabs with legislation changes on the statutory obligation.

 In liaison with finance manager; prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly financial reports to PC and ministry team leaders.

 Liaise with external auditors on preparation of annual accounts audited reports to be presented to AGM.

Any other responsibilities as allocated by your supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

A Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field; professional accounting qualification will be an added advantage.

 Must be highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.

 Must be proficient in accounting packages preferably QuickBooks.

 Must be highly skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets and other MS packages.

 Must have very good communication and report writing skills.

 Must have excellent work ethics, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause more than normal departmental pressures.

 Should have initiative, problem solving skills and work under minimal supervision.

 A minimum of 3 years experience in accounting is required

2. SOCIAL WORKER

REPORTS TO: Projects Manager

LOCATION: Kigali, Rwanda

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Social Worker will work with Mercy Ministry target group especially those living with HIV/AIDS, empowering them to make informed decisions affecting their health and broader livelihood issues. She/he will be responsible for sensitizing the beneficiaries on awareness to reduce the incidence of HIV through health promotion and income generation among the affected and infected to improve their livelihoods and other social facilitation through social linkages and support networks. The ideal candidate will tap into these networks and use them to facilitate community transformation in spiritual, physical and socio-economic dimensions for sustainability.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Conduct community needs assessments with relevant groups and partner with appropriate stakeholders to develop ways to meet identified needs.

 Coordinate support groups of people living with HIV/AIDS with socio-economicempowerment through training in skills, creation of small businesses, access to micro finance and other community based initiatives such as formation of cooperatives. Monitor needs fulfillment and needs development.

 Manage Mercy Ministry finances in ways that promote Christian financial stewardship, transparency and professionalism adhering to standard financial controls that govern financial management at CLA.

 Plan, provide leadership and engage in effective campaigns to secure educational sponsorship for orphans and other vulnerable children and ensure a follow up program is in place to continually link the sponsors with the sponsored children in ways that foster successful relationships;

Assist with maintaining child sponsorship database/spreadsheet

Share photos and videos of children and updates on development of children with sponsors

Facilitate communication between sponsors and children

Produce Child Sponsorship periodic reports as required

 Supervise other Mercy Ministry staff and volunteers

 Perform other related duties as required by the immediate Supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCES AND PERSONAL TRAITS:

 

• Should be a committed Christian, and should agree with CLA statement of faith

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social work and Social administration, or Public Health with at least three years of work experience in a related field;

• At least three years working with poor and underprivileged communities in Rwanda;

• Basic knowledge in the areas of needs and risk assessment, family dynamics, the impact of trauma, psycho-social functioning theories and practices and child protection theories, models and practices.

• Very good interpersonal, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. The incumbent must have well developed organizational, verbal and written communications and good computer skills

• Commitment to promote the mission and vision of Christian Life Assembly

• Cross-cultural experience, preferably in Africa;

• Ability to encourage, provide spiritual and psychological support and counselling to the needy;

• Ability to maintain confidentiality;

• Excellent speaking and writing skills in English and Kinyarwanda. French language will be an added advantage
